Friendship Card for my BFF

A few days ago I had a longing to use the Sunset Rita Barakat stamp set on a card. The next day the lyrics to the Micheal W Smith song “A friend is a friend forever when the Lord is the lord of them” would not stop running through my head . I was being told to make a card with both. I was praying over my children, I started to ask God why and who the card was for. My long time childhood best friend popped in my head. This card was meant for her.

The Musical at Church

In 1987 I was in a musical at my Grandma’s church. The name was something like “Friends 4 Ever” and the music was by Micheal W Smith. This is where I built a friendship with a person who would turn out to be a “Lifer” — a life long friend. I did not know it at the time. We were in 7th grade and were more concerned with blue eye shadow, leggings with mini skirts, scrunchies and making sure we had the perfect winged hair than anything else.

Years later I would go through hard times and practically lose my faith. She would end up going through far worse times and grow in faith. Through it all we remained friends. Sure we lost contact from time to time, but we always managed to reconnect. She has been my spiritual example and I strive to have the faith she has. This card is for her — my best friend forever.

How To

It took me several days to create this card and I have two videos that show the process. The first is on how to create the background through paint pouring using the new Mod Podge Ultra as the pour medium.

The second is how I made the card with lots of tips!

Magical Theater Presents the Love Princess

Magical Theater, by Rita Barakat, is the base for creating the Love Princess. It is a downloadable book full of whimsy and magic. This is a wonderful art resource to have on your hard drive. Not only are there tips and directions on creating your own paper dolls, there are also a few scenes completed. For this project I used things created in the book and added the finishing touches.

The base is a piece of cardboard from a package I received in the mail. Mod Podge was used to seal and attach the scene to the cardboard. For the princess I used a foam board as her base to give her structure and dimension.

The finishing touches on the piece were a mix of glitter glue, Nuvo Dew Drops and gems from the dollar store.

I used Glitter Mod Podge for the Princess because she needs to shine! Bits of extra trim from my stash was used along the edges.

It is okay to borrow other people’s creativity to spark your own. Or, perhaps like me you want to create something from the heart, but are limited on time. The Magical Theater is a great resource to have!

Here is another piece I created using it.

Valentine Day ATCs

I am feeling the love right now and decided to create some Valentine theme ATCs using Calico Collage Primitive Hearts and Beauty Secret ATC Bases . I used different parts of pink dollies I have from a set I found on sale at Micheal’s as an embellishment and to keep me interested in finishing all of them – ha! I don’t do well repeating the same thing multiple times. I like variety! The dollies allowed everything to match, but not identical. I made a short tutorial on how to make them here:

Here is a few pictures of the finished set:

Funky Bright Sugar Skull Canvas

I have never been into skeletons or skulls until recently. I live in the southwest part of the US. Day of the Dead (November) is a big deal here. Sugar skulls in general can be found pretty much all through out the year and are displayed all the time in cantinas and  Mexican food restaurants (my favorite!). Needless to say, after living here for 20 years I have grown quite fond of them. When Lisa Kettell created beautiful clay sugar skulls I knew I had to have them. I created this canvas with one of them along with digital art from my favorite shop, Calico Collage . This is the first project I made with these gorgeous fun pieces. I have something else planned for the others!

Check out the tutorial I made for you here .
