Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do!

The Change

I am a big advocate for making life happen and not just letting it happen to you. My childhood and especially my adolescence was rough. I would think about other places I wanted to be. Things I wanted my future to look like I would ponder. I also had a learning disability and school was tough. Between the drama at home and having to start working at the age of 12 my GPA was a 1.5. In my junior year of high school I came to the conclusion that if I did not get out of the area I would end up at rock bottom.

I started prioritizing school and quickly jumped to a 3.5 GPA. Sadly, I had screwed up so bad the first two years of high school that no college or university would admit me. Plus, I could not afford the application fee to apply to multiple colleges. In my senior year of high school my German teacher encouraged me to be an exchange student. She said she could work it out so I could go over on the high school program. The cost was $5K and I worked really hard to earn every dime of it! I boarded the plane barely 18 with less than $200 to my name and 1 suitcase to live in a foreign country for a year.

Reflections

I have been asked over the years if I was scared. Not really. I had no where else to go. Anything was better than where I was and if I did happen to get worse off, it was just on me and would affect no one else. I knew sitting on my hands waiting for something to happen was just a pipe dream. I had to work my dream!

The Present

It took me a little longer to get through college, but I did get through it. First I went to a university and earned my BS and later pursued my M Ed. Though my background was tough I used it to make a better life. I worked my dream to make it a reality.

You can too! No matter where you are or what you are doing YOU have the power to change your life. Now, I can’t take all the credit. The one thing my parents did do right is made sure I was in church every week and though the church slapped a scarlet letter on me because of where I came from God did use it to draw me to Him. He protected and helped me in this time. He gave me opportunities to pursue, but I had to do some work too!

The Reminder

I created this piece as a reminder to always pursue the life I want. Here is a video of how I created the background with the new Mod Podge Ultra as a pouring medium:

I used the new Art Foamie Stamp by Rita Barakat to create the large fairy and pop dotted the fairy die to the other side. Th embellishments I painted with the new Plaid Dragon Glaze and Colorshift!

The clouds I created in the Rise and Shine Rita Barakat group on Facebook. If you have not checked it out yet, you should!

NEW Mod Podge Ultra and a Blog Hop!

This is an exciting day in my parts! I discovered a new product at Creativation 2019 and it FINALLY is available in stores! Which means I FINALLY get to share it with you. I do not like to tell you about cool stuff if you can not get it. I think that is just mean. This new spray is working with a group of designers in a blog hop. The Designer Craft Connection is where you can find links to all the other blogs. Make sure you check it out! So, without anymore delay let me tell you about MOD PODGE ULTRA! This is an all in one heavy duty spray that is a glue and sealer. Why is this like the best thing since sliced bread? It literally holds EVERYTHING and no need for a brush….which means no brush strokes!!!!

I really can’t put into words or pictures exactly how this works and how amazing it is, so I made a video for you!

Mod Podge Ultra

Here is the finished project:

I still can not believe the entire sign is held together with a spray!

A few things to keep in mind when using this fabulous spray:

1) Always wipe the nozzle with a baby wipe or wet cloth after you have sprayed your project.

2) Shake it for 15 seconds before spraying.

3) Spray a few times before applying to project.

4) Use in a well ventilated area.

5) Prop project up on bottle caps in a box to spray.

Please make sure you hop along to the rest of the designers who participated in the hop. There are so many fun things one can make with Mod Podge Ultra and you are sure to be insipred!

How to Make Glittered Titles!

One of the things I like about white titles is how easy it is to add colored glitter to them to make them match a project. I really wanted to amp up and create a bright fun layout with my son and I. he is bright and fun so a layout needs to reflect that, right?

All the supplies I used are from Bad Girls Couture and the adhesive from Supertite (You can actually take 10% off any order over $5 with coupon code: Supertite-Golden).

I used the Dual Tip Max-Glue Pen to adhere the glitter to the letters.

I like it because not only is it clear, it also has a nice tip with a comb to move the adhesive around.

I applied my adhesive to the title:

I sprinkled a generous layer of glitter on the wet adhesive.

Once the title was covered I went in with the flat side of a craft spatula and pressed the glitter down.

I applied another layer of glitter and let it dry.

I simply removed the title once it was dry and applied to my layout.

I really like that with this technique I could glitter different words in my title different colors!

How to Use an Embossing Folder: Technique 1

Embossing Folders are so much fun and have lots of uses! They can really bring another layer of depth to a card or project. Over the next few days I am going to share with you four ways you can use an embossing folder. Today I am sharing with you the first and most used way: emboss. To do this technique you simply run a sheet of paper through your machine in the embossing folder. This on its own is a gorgeous use! I used a piece of white card stock to create the card above. I stamped a sentiment and used Silver Embossing Powder. I layered it on a silver glitter card base. The embossing folder I used can be found here Petal Lace.

I created an tutorial on all four of the techniques that you can view: Here .

Check back tomorrow to see the next technique!
