How To Create in a Black Art Journal

A few years ago I ran across a black art journal and just had to have it. I liked it because it was different. Once I got it home I played in it a few times and then set it down. This was not intentional. I had every aspiration to use the entire thing, but I started to draw a blank on what to do in it.

That all changed when Faber-Castell sent me a box of goodies to use for a hop with Rita Barakat. One of the products they sent me were gelatos. I knew I had to try them in my art journal! They also sent WHITE pens! To my delight they work beautifully on black paper.

The Details Behind the Art

To create this page I used this stencil by Rita Barakat and attached the lines with the white pen by Faber-Castell. To color in the image I used a few different techniques with the gelatos. It was fun to see how different the colors interacted with the dark paper versus white paper.

Here is another project I created with a Rita Barakat stencil!

It is my favorite piece and sits on display in my craft room.

Creating Cards with Water Color Pencils and Die Cuts

Hello Friends! Recently I participated in a blog hop with Rita Barakat and Faber-Castell. One of the project kits Faber-Castell sent was to create cards with water color pencils. I have had this set of die cuts for awhile. I think I have been hoarding them just waiting for the right time to use them. The time has come!

The Cards

I wish I could tell you how to make these cards, but the technique box did a wonderful job of teaching! Basically each card was created with a stencil and water color pencils. I first traced the stencil, colored it in and ran a wet paint brush over the image. I added a few embellishments from a Queen and Co trunk I recently unboxed here:

Here are the close ups of each card:

In Conclusion

Normally I am not an advocate for hoarding craft supplies, but in this case it paid off! I could not think of a better way to use these sweet Rita Barakat die cuts. The moral of the post is: If it is pretty just buy it 😉

Rita Barakat and Faber Castell Blog Hop!

This blog hop is by far the most anticipated blog hop of the year for me! I adore anything Rita Barakat comes out with and have a crush on Faber Castell. Sadly, I do not have much of Faber Castell in my stash. So, when I found out we were having a hop with them I was over the moon! Faber Castell sent me four different technique based kits to play with and I played with all of them! Though today I am only sharing one — Abstract Art. Don’t worry though because I will be sharing everything over the next couple of months.

Blog Hop List

First, lets get the technicalities out of the way. There are prizes to be won on this hop! In order to qualify for a prize you must leave a comment on each blog and consider subscribing.

Abstract Art

I created three 4 by 6 panels with the Abstract Art Kit and Rita Barakat mermaids. Here is a video of the unboxing of the kit and how to use it: Abstract Art

Joy Clair Blog Hop — Saved By Grace

Are you ready for another wonderful blog hop? Today the designers for Joy Clair have teamed up to bring you more new stamp projects featuring the new Color Faith line!

My stamp set is the large Saved By Grace. It has the most beautiful doodled flowers and large script words! Alll of my projects are created with gelatos.

Faith Bible Art

This is not my favorite Bible art page I have ever created. I have decided to share it with you because it is the base of what got me started with this set and the gelatos. I learned a lot as I completed it. My intention was to create a watercolor page. By doing so I learned how to use water with the gelatos.

First I tried to create an ombre affect by mixing gelatos with water and painting them on a clear gessoed Bible page. Once it dried, I tried to stamp with the gelatos, but did not like the look, so I stamped with a waterproof ink and colored them in the same way I colored the background. The page was finished off by stamping “Faith” and “Love”.

The Card

To create this card I first stamped a bunch of the words with white and heat set it with embossing powder. I applied my gelatos on top of the stamped image and wipped of the words as I blended out the gelatos.

To create the flowers, I first stamped the images, painted them with gelatos, cut them out and layered them.

This card turned out super cute! A few gems to make up the center and a couple dots of Dew Drops to finish it off.

Grace ATC

My expectations for this ATC were not high. I was not sure how the gelatos would react with the vinyl , but I tried it and ended up liking it a lot!

The texture makes this interesting! To create the ATC, I first stamped the flowers and heat set them. I applied the gelatos directly on the ATC and rubbed it out with my finger. I took a baby wipe and lightly buffed the top of the flowers to let the embossed image shine through for more definition. Grace was stamped with white pigment ink and embossing powder that I heat set. A few dots of Dew Drop was the final touch.

Now it is time to hop! Please hop through all the blogs to see the rest of the fantastic new releases! Don’t forget to leave a comment in each blog along the way.
