Anyone interested in a hop? I am super excited to be part of the collaboration hop between Rita Barakat and Style Tech Craft. After you check out my blog on how to upcycle a Dollar Tree Frame to a Summer Shadow box hop on over to Rita’s blog to see all the details on the hop.
Summer Vibes

I found a pretty bling shadowbox at the Dollar Tree and decided it would make the perfect Mermaid inspired decor piece.

The vinyl I choose are colors associated with water. I mixed in a rather plain one so the glitter is not overwhelming.

Next I used a wave ruler as a stencil.

After the waves were cut out, I laid them on the shadowbox back piece for alignment purposes.

Using a roll of transfer film, I carefully adhered the vinyl together.

Basically you lay the transfer sheet on the vinyl, remove the film protector from the piece you want to layer and lay it on top of the piece you want to cover.

Make sure to smooth it out between layers.

Once the vinyl is layered pop it back into the shadow box and cut your letters! I was so thrilled that it cut beautifully in my Scan-N-Cut! There are a few alphabet options on the machine. I cut two sets of letter in different colors. One was slightly larger than the other to create a shadow effect!

This silver is very cool! I had to use it on this project!

I just could not get over this holographic one either.

To lay out the letters I just eyeballed them and did not use transfer film. They adhered beautifully! I repeated with the silver.

Now for the stars of the show — MERMAIDS!

To achieve a lot of depth and dimension, I placed one mermaid on the backdrop with mixed media glue. I placed another using pop dots.

Once the first two mermaids were adhered, I popped the backdrop into the frame and added a mermaid to the front.

A little Stickles to finish it off.

Isn’t this a perfect piece for summer?
Now make sure to hop on over to Rita’s blog to join in the fun!
