Chalking with a Stencil

Rita Barakat has incredible stencils that help you draw faces! I love to chalk everything and anything in my home. I also have a serious crush on anything from the 1980’s. Big hair, scrunchies and neon colors is where it is at! Marvy has come out with some NEW fine tip chalk pins and I knew it was time to merge the three together for an epic art piece! Only thing is I ended up creating three. Once I started I just could not stop!

Crazy Hair

For each piece I wanted to focus on one element of the face. I really like hair! It is my favorite thing to draw (well….the only thing I can draw without help). I wanted the piece to be dramatic and weird. I only added the eye and went crazy with the hair adding in little dots of all the colors through out.

Curly Hair

For this piece I still wanted to have a ton of hair, but have more of the face. When I first added the curls it was far to structured for my liking, so I softened the look with a Q-Tip. Since it is chalk it does erase and leaves a dusty residue if not wiped clean. This is something to keep in mind for shading!

Pucker Up!

Ironically this piece is my very favorite! I am terrified of drawing lips. Even with the stencil I will have to do them at least three times to get them correct. I knew I could easily erase them since I used chalk board paper and chalk markers, so I gave it a try. Once I got her lips done I added in her neck and used my favorite color to create a top. I almost did not add hair, but once again knew I could erase it if I did not like it, so added some.

Final Thoughts:

In conclusion by taking the pressure off of having to get it right because I could erase it I was able to free my creativity and created three awesome pieces. This is a great way to practice your drawing without committing to it. Once you are done you can easily erase it or spray it with hairspray to save it.

  1. Wow, Betz, what a creative project. Loved that you used stencils. I wonder how the pens differ from the old style of chalking other than being in pen form. Also I do see a use for them in Art journaling allowing creativity to flow.

    • I do old style chalking too! πŸ™ƒπŸ™‚πŸ™ƒ. These are more fluid and not….well….chalky 🀣 even though they are chalk.

  2. What an inspiring hop! (The link for Michelle is wrong but going to her blog I found it.). Now I need a set of these markers! Gee, thanks, Rita! LOL

    • Thanks for letting me know about her link! The markers are awesome! I will be doing a project with them in Rise and Shine on Facebook this Thursday!

  3. Good idea to smear the curls with a Qtip. That’s why I like to see people’s blogs–I learn so much.
